Biography

I knew from an early age that I wanted to work with young children. While still in high school, I began working as a classroom teacher with preschoolers and then continued working in center-based child care for almost 20 years, moving from teaching to directing and then into the child care resource and referral system (now Care About Childcare). I was home-based in Utah county, but for about five years I also worked in rural counties in central Utah. After seven years at Care About Child Care, I began working at The Children’s Center Utah where I became an early childhood consultant. During this time, I learned about the Pyramid Model, so when I had an opportunity, I took a job providing infant and early childhood mental health consultation to programs involved in the Utah Pyramid Model. Working full-time in early childhood education helped finance my higher education goals but it also drastically slowed down the process. Eventually I obtained two higher education degrees in human development and early childhood education which complemented my real-world experiences which, in turn, motivated me to finish my degrees. I love collaborating with people who work with young children and their families and enjoy being back in classrooms, on playgrounds and in homes where little ones and their caregivers are learning and growing together.
