About UATP

The Utah Assistive Technology Program is part of the Institute for Disability Research, Policy and Practice at Utah State University. We were established in 1989 through a grant written by CPD founding director Marvin Fifield and Ron Thorkelsen. Our founding director was Martell Menlove.

Our headquarters are on the USU campus in Logan, but we offer services statewide. We have physical locations in Salt Lake City, Logan and the Uintah Basin.

Assistive Technology Financing

UATP offers reduced-interest loans and small grants to help Utahns afford the equipment that helps them become or remain more independent. These can be applied for online and over the phone, and are offered to Utahns statewide. To find out more or apply for one of our financing services, visit our Financing page.

Demonstration & Loan of AT

Clients can learn more about their AT options, compare devices and borrow them through our lending libraries in Logan and the Uintah Basin. To find out more or set up an appointment with one of our coordinators, visit our Demonstration and Loan page.

Some remote demonstrations are available to Utahns statewide, and our YouTube channel offers training videos 24/7.

Reuse

All UATP locations refurbish, re-purpose and reuse assistive technology, then transfer it back to the community members who need it. The Salt Lake City location focuses only on mobility equipment, and it has hundreds of wheelchairs, power chairs and scooters in its inventory. The Logan and Uintah Basin locations repurpose assistive technology of all kinds. Some fees may apply. Visit our reuse page to learn more or to contact any of our coordinators.

Customization

All UATP locations customize devices to fit individual needs.

Information & Assistance

Our goal is to spread the word about assistive technology! We provide training, offer presentations for groups, and refer people to the services that could best help them. If you have any questions about assistive technology, how to find what works for you or a client, or how to use a specific device, call 800-524-5152 or reach out to the coordinator nearest you.

Funding

UATP is a federally-funded program. We are also supported by donations of funds and equipment, and by the state of Utah. To donate, visit our Giving page.

UATP is funded through a grant from the Administration for Community Living in the US Department of Health and Human Services, Grant #H224A140044.
