Dr. Fifield graduated from Utah State University and got his doctorate in special education and rehabilitation from the University of Oregon. He has worked as a school psychologist and an evaluation specialist in both rural and medium size city schools. He was an associate professor in special education at the University of Idaho and worked at the Idaho Human Development Institute (UCEDD). He has served as the director of the North Dakota Institute for Disability Research, Policy & Practice at Minot State University. He is also the former director of the Utah State University affiliated Institute for Disability Research, Policy & Practice. He is currently a professor in the Department of Special Education and Rehabilitation At USU.
His current research interersts include disability studies, disability in early Utah history, and disability policy issues.
