Janel is a native of Utah. She moved to Logan in 1991 to attend Utah Sate University. She graduated from USU with a BS degree in Special Education. She taught in the public schools for 7 years. During that time she participated in the statewide autism training.
Currently, Janel is the lead teacher for the ABC - Autism services in the Up to Three Early Intervention program. These services are children who maybe at risk for Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD). The ABC -Autism services provide training to the child and family in the areas of social engagement, language, social imitation and play. Janel has completed the coursework for the Play and Language for Autistic Youngsters (PLAY) and is a certified PLAY home consultant.
She also is the Center for Disease Control and Prevention Act Early Ambasador for the state of Utah for the "Learn the Signs. Act Early". healthy development campaign. Within this role she works with community programs to get developmental milestones and monitoring to families. She works with national, state, and local agiencies to embed the materials and the 4 steps of early identification into programs. She presents the materials for the campaign at conferences and at community events.
Janel also serves as the program coordinator for ECHO at IDRPP. Project ECHO® is a lifelong learning and guided practice model that exponentially increases workforce capacity to provide the application of best practices.
She waits all winter to enjoy the warmth of summer and spending time out doors boating and hiking.
