Getting Started

The following steps will help you get started in the food program with the Child Care Nutrition Program. We are here to help you through every step of the process.

Have one of the following

  1. A valid Utah Family Child Care License or Residential Certificate
  2. Be approved as an Alternate Care Provider
  3. Be approved as a Relative Care Provider

Contact our office. We will schedule a home training at your convenience.

Sign an agreement with the Child Care Nutrition Program during the training process.

  • Utah Family Child Care License or Residential Certificate:
  • If you are interested in becoming a licensed provider go to health.utah.gov/licensing/indes.htm
  • Relative Care Provider Check List: (All children related to provider)
    1. Annual Background Check through licensing
    2. Annual Food Program Training
    3. Working Smoke Detectors
    4. Fire extinguisher: 5A 10BC either tagged or with current receipt or with date on fire extinguisher (metal top can usually be refilled and last longer)
    5. Outside areas free from hazardous items which could cause injury to a child
    6. Home has hot and cold running water
    7. Working telephone in the home
    8. Phone numbers and contact information for all children/immunizations for all children kept

Alternate Care Provider Check List

  • Can only care for 4 or fewer children; licensing ratios apply) and not be eligible for a Utah child care license
  • Annual Background Check for residents of Household 12 years of age and older through licensing
  • Annual Health Inspection
  • Annual Fire Inspection
  • Current CPR and First Aid certification
  • Current Food Handler’s Permit
  • Annual Food Program Training
  • Working Smoke Detectors
